Inclusive, Inspirational Workshops - helping schools & learners understand brains better & communicate

In-person Workshop -
'Princess, Ogre & The Brain' - Understanding Neurodivergence

At Gaia Learning, we believe every child deserves to understand themselves, their brain, and how they learn best.

Our Big Brain Workshop was created by Kate CEO of Gaia in partnership with her ADHD Dyslexic daughter Poppy, (see pic above!) to give children both the confidence and the language to explore their own neurodivergence, while also learning how to understand and support one another.

With the rise in ADHD, Autism, and other neurodivergent diagnoses, and the growing number of children identified with special educational needs, it has never been more important to create safe, inclusive spaces where learners feel seen and valued.

This half-day, face to face workshop uses creative storytelling (Princess Fiona from Shrek, if she was neurodivergent), role play, and imaginative activities to help children recognise different brain traits, share experiences, and co-create kind, supportive language for their classrooms and communities. Designed for children over 8years old.

By the end of this half day workshop, students will:

  • Understand what neurodiversity means and how it can affect people differently.
  • Explore how it might feel to be neurodivergent using storytelling and imagination.
  • Practice empathy and inclusive thinking.
  • Reflect on how they can be kind, supportive classmates to all types of brains.

How does this workshop help?

For neurodivergent children

  • Self-awareness & empowerment
Understanding their brain style helps children see they are not “broken” — just wired differently, with unique strengths and challenges.

  • Confidence & belonging
Kids realise “there are others like me” which reduces isolation and boosts self-esteem.

  • Tools for success
When they know how their brain works, they can try strategies — like chunking tasks, sensory breaks, or using tech — to make learning and life smoother.

  • Pride in identity
Neurodivergence can be reframed as a source of creativity, problem-solving, and resilience, not just difficulty.

For neurotypical peers

  • Empathy & acceptance
Learning why a friend might need more time, move around, or communicate differently reduces stigma and bullying.

  • Better teamwork & friendships
Kids see value in diverse ways of thinking and learn to celebrate differences.

  • Inclusive communities
Understanding neurodiversity helps create classrooms and playgrounds where everyone feels safe to be themselves.

For schools and families

  • Stronger relationships
When children can explain what helps them — “I learn better with pictures,” “I need quiet space sometimes” — it reduces conflict at home and school.

  • Shared language
Using simple terms like “sensory overload” or “brain break” means everyone (teachers, parents, peers) can respond consistently.

  • Preparation for life
Children who understand neurodiversity grow into adults who advocate for themselves and others, making workplaces and communities more inclusive.

Working in Partnership with the following and more...

New Bridge Group

When the leadership team at New Bridge learnt about Gaia Learning they saw the need to support their students with SEMH in a different way.

Our partnership grew to be their virtual school and continues to be a huge hit with their learners.

In Q1 2024 we are supporting the school to build their first nurture space - a hybrid learning environment in a day centre in Oldham, UK where learners from a cross the school and community can come together to take part in online learning sessions delivered remotely.

Ark Alexandra

14yr old S* has been out of the school system for a few years. As part of a mainstream school with an EHCP Sam was struggling to engage with the physical classroom and face to face tuition. The school engaged with Gaia Learning to deliver GCSE’s via 1:1 tuition online.

“I am now hopeful for S’s future and can see the progress he’s making. Every time I read an email from you I can see how much you care, thank you”..

Riverside Education

English, Maths, Science, Functional Skills and Business Studies. Since spring 2022 Gaia Learning have supported this Birmingham AP school to engage the most difficult to reach students.

Whether it’s due to neurodivergence, personal circumstances or SEMH we’ve worked in partnership with the school to support young people through their GCSE’s helping them get onto Apprenticeships and having successes they didn’t think were possible.

Parent view…

"Gaia Learning has been a game-changer for our son. As parents, we were concerned about his struggles with English as an Additional Language and suspected neurodiversity.

Since joining Gaia, he's not only improved his English but also found a nurturing environment that values his unique strengths. We couldn't be happier with his progress and newfound confidence. Thank you, Gaia Learning!"
