Gaia Learning Becomes an Approved Pearson Edexcel Online Learning Centre

News: November 2025

Gaia Learning is proud to announce that it has been officially approved as a Pearson Edexcel Online Learning Centre, marking a significant milestone in expanding flexible, inclusive and personalised education options for learners in the UK and beyond.

This approval enables Gaia Learning to offer modular iGCSEs, remote invigilation, and more adaptable exam pathways—giving young people greater choice, control and confidence in how they progress through their education.

“At Gaia, we’ve always believed that there is no single route to learning,” said the Gaia Learning leadership team. “Becoming a Pearson Edexcel online centre allows us to build even more personalised pathways that support wellbeing, agency and long-term success.”

Pathways Designed Around the Learner

Gaia’s learning model is designed to recognise that every learner has different needs, interests and rhythms. Some of the routes learners take include:

  • Functional Skills as a foundation
  • Modular iGCSEs taken step by step
  • Interest-based and project-based learning
  • One-to-one mentoring and tailored support
  • Extended or alternative timelines for exams when needed

Proven Impact

Gaia Learning has seen measurable improvements in outcomes when learners follow personalised pathways. Many have:

  • Progressed to sixth forms, colleges and apprenticeships that genuinely fit their aspirations
  • Returned to mainstream school when the time was right
  • Taken exams in calmer, safer environments that reduce anxiety
  • Built confidence after years of feeling “behind”—only to discover they were never behind at all

A Message to Families

Gaia Learning remains committed to its core principles:

  • Learning is not a race
  • There is no need to keep up with the crowd
  • Real progress happens at the pace that supports wellbeing

By becoming a Pearson Edexcel approved online centre, Gaia Learning strengthens its mission: to ensure every learner can succeed on their own terms.

Gaia Learning CEO & Founder Kate Longworth Wins Great British Entrepreneur of the Year 2025 (Tech – North West) for Innovation in Supporting SEN Learners

News: November 2025

Gaia Learning is proud to announce that Founder Kate Longworth has been named Great British Entrepreneur of the Year 2025 in the Tech – North West category. This prestigious national award recognises Kate’s pioneering work in developing Bloom, Gaia Learning’s impact-tracking platform transforming how learning activity and progression are understood for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Selected from thousands of entrepreneurs across the UK, Kate’s win highlights her exceptional leadership in building technology that makes education more personalised, measurable and equitable for diverse learners.

A Breakthrough Innovation for SEN Learners

Bloom—developed by Gaia Learning—captures, measures and interprets the activity, engagement and developmental progress of SEN learners in real time. The platform empowers educators, families and local authorities by offering:

  • Clear visibility of learner activity and wellbeing trends
  • Personalised progress data that reflects how a learner grows, not how they compare
  • Early identification of emerging needs or changes in engagement
  • Evidence-based insights for EHCP reviews, reintegration plans and interventions
  • A holistic profile of each child that goes far beyond traditional attainment metrics

Kate’s vision has been to ensure that every learner’s story is seen, heard and understood—especially those whose progress is not always reflected through conventional systems.

Championing Neurodiversity and Inclusive Tech

Under Kate’s direction, Gaia Learning has become a leader in digital, neurodiversity-affirming education. Bloom plays a vital role in ensuring learners who struggle with anxiety, autism, ADHD, trauma, school avoidance or other complex needs can have their journey documented in a way that recognises their strengths and supports their wellbeing.

The award judges praised Kate for her “innovative use of technology to solve real-world educational challenges” and her “unwavering commitment to improving outcomes for some of the UK’s most vulnerable learners.”

A Recognition of Purpose-Driven Entrepreneurship

“This award is truly a celebration of our learners,” said Kate Longworth. “Bloom exists because the system wasn’t built to understand their brilliance. Every child deserves to have their progress recognised in a way that reflects who they are—not who the system expects them to be. I’m honoured to be part of the movement reshaping that story.”

Kate shares this achievement with the entire Gaia Learning team, the families who trust Gaia to support their children, and the local authorities and partners who champion innovative approaches to inclusion.

Shaping the Future of SEN Education

Kate’s recognition as Great British Entrepreneur of the Year 2025 underscores Gaia Learning’s growing influence in the UK’s education and EdTech sectors. With Bloom at the forefront, Gaia Learning continues to build tools and environments where every child can thrive, be understood and feel safe to learn.

EdTech company Gaia Learning secures over half a million VC investment

Online learning provider, Gaia Learning, has secured its biggest investment to date landing £550K in venture capital funding this week, enabling them to support even more neurodivergent children across the UK.

The NW-based EdTech has just started its latest academic year, delivering live, online learning classes and courses for neurodivergent children aged 8-16 with ADHD and autism. International and UK enquiries are reaching record heights, with its latest investment allowing its continued growth nationally and internationally.

“We’re so pleased to have our new investment partners on board and them acknowledging the potential in all we do at Gaia Learning to help school partners, learners and their families. We have tripled our learners this academic year, grown our team to 12 staff members and seen huge demand from children who are struggling in mainstream education. Now, more than ever, schools need flexible, digital solutions that can scale within budget supporting each neurodivergent child’s needs,” says Kate Longworth, CEO of Gaia Learning.

Since 2019 Gaia Learning has gone from a small, specialist tuition business to an award-winning Cambridge Registered International School Online and the first online learning provider to be awarded the ADHD Friendly School award from the ADHD Foundation in 2023.

Nesta Impact Investments (Nesta) led the investment round with Manchester-based GC Angels also co-investing. Nesta brings both investment capital to support the business' growth and strategic focus on narrowing the education outcomes gap.  GC Angels is focussed on making direct purpose led investments to support the growth of early-stage businesses like Gaia Learning.

“We backed Gaia learning as both a promising high growth business and as a solution to tackle the acute gap between education outcomes of students with special educational needs and the average. Students with an Education Health and Care Plan, who Gaia Learning typically supports, at a national level have outcomes at GCSE eight times worse than the average. One of Nesta's key areas of focus is to narrow the education attainment gap and Gaia Learning provides a compelling solution to tackle this,” says Lisa Barclay, Executive Director of Investments at Nesta.

Marc Shirman, Head of Investments at GC Angels, said: “Gaia Learning is exactly what GC Angels is all about. The teams purpose-led approach is helping children who would otherwise be left behind in education to thrive, and the growth they’ve so far achieved is commendable. As the team continues to grow, and with enquiries on the up, we worked with Kate and the team to ensure Gaia Learning has the necessary investment and resources to drive further expansion and, ultimately, deliver incredible results for young people.”
